The environment and us

We are committed to developing our business operations in accordance with the principles of sustainable development. By identifying the areas we can influence, and implementing changes, we aim to ensure that we play our part in preserving the environment for future generations.

Our Green Credentials

Scream if you’re Green TTG Business Awards, 2007 (Winner)

This Award gave recognition to Key Travel for “promoting green issues long before it became trendy to do so. The judges were particularly impressed with Key Travels’ targets that are transparent and measurable and aim to reduce rather than offset.”

ISO 14001

To demonstrate our passion and commitment to the environment, we are currently working towards ISO 14001 accreditation.

ISO 14001 provides a framework for the development of an environmental management system. It applies to those environmental aspects that the organisation identifies as those which it can control and those which it can influence.

Energy Consumption

In all of our offices we have Zip Heaters Hydro taps installed which consume much less energy than a standard kettle and we only use 100% Fairtrade drinks.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

We fully agree with the principle of ‘Reduce, Reuse and Recycle’. We use electronic communications within the organisation and with clients to minimise the use of paper.  Our booking system is paperless and where possible all records are kept on systems rather than paper files.  We recycle glass, cans, paper, vending cups, plastic bottles, plastic bags, toner cartridges and IT equipment.

Sustainable Sourcing

Key Travel will source consumables which are energy efficient, environmentally friendly and fair-trade. We will ask all suppliers to make a commitment to adopting an Ethical Policy. Our paper and even our pencils are made from recycled materials and the ink we used for print is made from vegetable based ink. Our energy supplier is ‘Good Energy’ a supplier of 100% renewable energy.

In August 2007, our Manchester office moved into larger premises and we took this opportunity to choose an office with design features that minimised our overall impact on the environment.

The office includes key features such as:

  • Large windows to ensure maximum use of natural light
  • Motion activated lighting system, separated into banks of 6 over the desks
  • Recyclable carpet, classed as carbon neutral by the manufacturers
  • No parking facilities to encourage staff to use public transport to/from work

Travel Avoidance

Key Travel has installed video conferencing facilities in each office to reduce the business miles we need to take for internal meetings. Where a face to face meeting is required, our staff travel policy stipulates that public transport must be used, where possible. Our Account Managers do have cars but these are Hybrid cars in accordance with company policy.

Carbon Offsetting

All carbon dioxide emissions produced as a consequence of our operations are offset with Climate Care.
