Following a company wide vote, Maternal and Childhealth Advocacy International (MCAI) has been chosen as our Charity of the Year for 2010.
MCAI works to alleviate the suffering of mothers and children in countries where there is extreme poverty, armed conflict or other disaster. With the help of local professionals they deliver hands-on maternal and child friendly healthcare, specifically in hospitals but also integrating closely with primary healthcare. They provide training in emergency care for medical and nursing staff using the educational materials they develop.
We will be organising a variety of events with the aim of raising as much money as possible to help fund chemotherapy treatment for children with Burkitt's Lymphoma in Cameroon.
Burkitt's Lymphoma is the most common children's cancer in sub-Saharan Africa. It affects children between the ages of 2-16 and without treatment, is fatal. Key Travel hopes to help save as many children from this cancer as possible.
